QR codes — patterns with embedded Web links that can be scanned, bar-code style, by smartphones — could be the next step in social-media marketing, experts say. The codes essentially allow users to “check in” not just to places but to any object, such as an advertisement or a can of soda. “With many bigger companies now realising the potential of social scanning, the QR code is well on its way to becoming a widely used feature for social marketing,” writes Cameron Ng.  Penn-Olson.com
