With “Deals,” Facebook dives into location marketing


Facebook has unveiled a new location-based marketing tool, dubbed “Deals,” that will allow brands to offer location-specific promotions to users who share their location using Facebook’s Places service. The system is seen as a fusion of Foursquare-style location networking and Groupon-style social-discounts services. “Mobile is as big as that — when you combine mobile and social, industries can get disrupted,” said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.  Advertising Age (tiered subscription model)
