Microsoft scrambles to reach consumer market

Microsoft’s decision to kill its youth-focused, social-networking Kin phones within two months of launch — after selling fewer than 10,000 of the gadgets — highlights the tech giant’s recent string of consumer flops, including Windows Vista and Windows for tablets.
