Twitter gets serious about analytics with Smallthought purchase


Twitter has acquired Smallthought Systems, the company behind cloud-based social-analytics platform Trendly. The acquisition should allow Twitter to strengthen the analytic element of its recently launched Promoted Tweets and URL-shortening features, adding value for social marketers. “[A]s we grow, analytics becomes an increasingly crucial part of improving our service,” Twitter declared in a statement announcing the move.  BusinessWeek.com/IDG News Service
