Facebook ends Microsoft banner-ad deal

Facebook has renewed its search deal with Microsoft, but scrapped a 2007 agreement to let the company handle its banner advertising. The move is being seen as a shift away from standard Web ads toward more socially engaged — and more lucrative — advertising models. “Ad formats that feature social actions perform better and provide a better user experience,” Facebook said in a statement. “This combination of targeting and social relevance is the primary driver behind the shift in strategy.”  CNET/The Social blog
