Social nets meet virtual worlds


James Cameron’s hit movie “Avatar” showcases one possible future for today’s social networks, writes Daniel Terdiman. As technology improves, people will want sites that combine immersive, “Avatar”-style virtual worlds with the connectivity of Facebook and Twitter, he argues. “The Second Lifes of the world missed an opportunity to give mass numbers of people the kind of personal connection they really wanted,” Terdiman adds. “The key is to find a way to mix the virtual and the real.”  CNET/Geek Gestalt blog
