Why YouTube is the decade’s top social-media tool


Google’s video-hosting site may still be trying to find ways to turn a profit, but it’s the one social-media innovation of the last decade that looks sure to last, declares Adam Ostrow. Social networks come and go, but YouTube’s citizen-journalism, everyone’s-an-entertainer business model offers genuine value that’s hard to disrupt or replace, Ostrow argues. “This year’s Facebook could be next year’s Friendster,” he writes. “[But] YouTube dominates online video in a way that looks absolutely insurmountable.”  Mashable
