How to avoid falling afoul of the FTC

The Federal Trade Commission is finally catching up with the digital revolution — and that means companies could face official sanction if they get their social-media policies wrong, writes digital-media consultant Dallas Lawrence. “The FTC is codifying and enforcing what were once only unwritten rules,” Lawrence writes. “Companies caught crossing the bounds of appropriate online behavior now face harsher penalties than ever before.” To avoid falling afoul of the FTC, Lawrence advises that companies adopt social-media policies promoting absolute transparency and the speedy correction of any misinformation.  Mashable
